about the band
Carol Hendrix Burrus, Andy Black and Charlie Burrus have been playing music together in Houston since the early '90s. The group was originally put together by "Texas Jon" David Jones, but after David uprooted and flew off to California, the three continued, focusing on Carol's songwriting and singing.
Carol's songs range from spiritual to political to the good old love song. Her voice is a strong, sweet and clear alto, having grown up singing in musicals and jazz and variety bands. In addition to her songwriting and singing, she also plays piano, ukulele and flute.
Andy and Charlie complement Carol both vocally and instrumentally, Andy on upright and fretless bass (and the occasional guitar or banjo) and Charlie on acoustic and electric guitar (and the occasional piano or organ).
Carol, Charlie and Andy are grateful for the fellow Travelers who have joined them and continue to join them along the way... friends on stage and in the studio, including Chris Brown, Herman Kluge, Luigi Bai, Howard Hendrix, Barbara Shreffler, Max Dyer, Michael Black, James Metcalfe and of course, founding member David Jones.
